The latest on Marshall University Soccer from HerdZone.com:

HUNTINGTON, W.Va.— The Marshall men’s soccer team defeated the FAU Owls with just over three minutes remaining in its Conference USA home opener. The Herd improves to 5-4-0 and 1-1-0 in C-USA action while the Owls fell to 1-5-1 and 0-2-0 in conference play.

The first half was scoreless, despite Marshall controlling the play for most of the half. The Herd earned five corner kicks in the half and had three shots on the goal. The best chance came in the 17th minute when junior Jascha Glueckschalt broke through, but his shot was saved by FAU goalie Phillip Hitpass. Senior Trevor Starcher and sophomore Chris Taibihad the other shots on goal in the first 45.

Four minutes into the second half, senior Daniel Jodah had a great opportunity, only for his shot to be saved by Hitpass. Jodah had the next big opportunity for the Herd in the 62nd minute when his free kick just outside the 18 yard box was saved by Hitpass once again.

FAU’s chances then increased, particularly on the counter attack. The Owls put together several shots on goal in close succession. This required several saves from freshman goalie Trevor Clemens who finished the match with three.

After dominating for most of the match, finally in the 87th minute, Starcher scored off an initial shot by junior Brayan Lopez-Mendez which deflected off the post and fell right to Starcher, putting Marshall up 1-0. After a scrappy final few minutes, Marshall held on for its first conference win of the season.

UP NEXT
Marshall hits the road for two games with the first match at Evansville scheduled for Wednesday Sept. 28 with kickoff at 8 p.m. After the match with the Purple Aces, the Herd will head to South Carolina to get back into Conference USA action, Oct. 2 at 7 p.m.

San Francisco, CA – The Bay Area is synonymous with innovation and an environmentally conscious attitude. So it should come as no surprise that when the University of San Francisco needed a new soccer field, they chose a cutting edge AstroTurf® playing surface that incorporates organic elements. Installation of the new synthetic turf system at Negoesco Stadium was completed on July 7th, making it the second state-of-the-art AstroTurf field installed on campus this year, following the renovation of Benedetti Diamond earlier this year.

Negoesco Field during the Infilling Process

Negoesco Stadium now sports a brand new 82,000 square foot AstroTurf Golden Series DT playing surface. What makes the AstroTurf Golden Series DT product so distinctive is that it synthesizes several different advanced artificial turf technologies into one cohesive and cutting edge system. It begins from the bottom up with a specialized Brock pad for maximum shock attenuation and energy restitution during play. The artificial turf itself is a combination of high density slit film fibers for durability, and a specialized version of AstroTurf’s patented RootZone® system, which bolsters the turf for improved structural integrity. The final piece is the infill, which is made up of sand and a specialized product called ZeoFill, an organic mineral used in health food supplements and water filtration systems that actually helps to reduce surface temperatures by absorbing and slowly releasing water. All of these elements combine to deliver an exceptional playing surface engineered for high usage and consistent performance, all while eliminating the use of crumb rubber.

“Not only does this field offer us the latest in sustainable technology, it also gives us the pure performance characteristics we were looking for in a synthetic turf system,” said USF Athletic Director Scott Sidwell. “We think this new AstroTurf field gives our students the best of both worlds.”

In addition to wanting an organic alternative to the traditional crumb rubber infill, USF Athletics was looking for an artificial surface that was safe, durable, and played fast. A visit to Jesuit High School in Sacramento, which has enjoyed a Golden Series DT field since last summer, helped to cement the decision that this surface would satisfy their demands.

SCM’s Synthetic Turf Field Install at LTU (MI)

Great article on SCM’s synthetic turf field install at LTU!

Southfield, MI, September 19, 2016 – Lawrence Technological University is in the midst of a major athletic facility upgrade, and they’re starting from the ground up. LTU Athletic Field now features a cutting edge playing surface from AstroTurf®, the originators of the synthetic turf industry. Installation of the artificial turf field, located on a part of campus known as the Point, was completed in mid-August and opened for competition last week.

The new field has been lined for use by football, soccer and lacrosse, and it features over 88,000 square feet of the AstroTurf 3DX synthetic turf system. The 3DX product is composed of slit film fibers for maximum durability, sand and rubber infill, and AstroTurf’s patented RootZone® technology. The RootZone utilizes texturized fibers to stabilize the infill and increase shock absorbency, improving the field’s safety and playability. The result is a high performance athletic surface that can handle heavy usage.

“This AstroTurf field is the first phase of many improvements to our athletics facilities,” said LTU Athletic Director Scott Trudeau. “Many of our students will be impacted by the addition of this multipurpose field on our campus.  We will have three soccer teams and two lacrosse teams immediately benefit from not having to travel for games and practices. We will also be able to utilize it for our many intramural programs like flag football, soccer, and ultimate frisbee not to mention the numerous teams that will utilize it for conditioning purposes.  It is great to see how far we have come since 2011 when we got into the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics.”

The new and improved LTU Athletic Field was officially inaugurated when men’s soccer hosted Taylor University in the team’s home opener on August 24th, a 1-0 win for LTU. To date the Men’s and Women’s teams are both undefeated at home.  The Blue Devils compete in the Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference of the NAIA. AstroTurf was selected as the official synthetic turf of the NAIA back in March, with NAIA President Jim Carr citing the company’s innovative products, commitment to excellence and their safe and durable fields.

The new field is part of a more comprehensive renovation project aimed at improving the athletic facilities on that part of campus known as “The Point.” Phase 1 includes the new turf, fencing and increased parking capacity. Phases 2 and 3 will include adding lights for nighttime activities, permanent stands and other spectator amenities.

About United Sports:

United Sports is a 127,000 square-foot indoor, 60-acre outdoor sports complex located directly off the Route 30 Bypass in the heart of Chester County, PA. This privately-funded project transformed a historic, but long-neglected, airport into a major center for public recreation and field access. United Sports is located on 100 acres in Downingtown PA, a suburb just west of Philadelphia. Also known as “The Brandywine Valley” Chester County boasts a vibrant business and cultural community set in a rich, Historical environment.

In 1993, Belle Capital Corporation, Ltd., headed by Ted van Beuren, began to explore the development of a youth and adult sports center with the intent to build a State of the Art Sports Facility in the Northeast. The impetus was the result of a continued awareness of an ever-increasing lack of outdoor and indoor field space caused by the tremendous growth curve in youth athletics. Research showed that demographically, Chester County, Pennsylvania was an ideal location for this premier sports facility.

Chester County’s ideal location as the 3rd fastest growing county in the state of Pennsylvania attracts businesses worldwide that choose to open their east coast headquarters surrounding the Philadelphia area. United Sports, through its’ tournaments, special events and daily activates, creates a total economic impact on Chester County of over $7 million.

In a time of rapid urban development, rather than building homes or additional corporate buildings, United Sports designed a complex that encompasses 11 outdoor, playing fields and 3 acres under roof with multiple playing surfaces for varying sport use. United Sports provides an opportunity for your child to participate in sports in a safe environment. Without these additional fields and programs, registrations for youth leagues would be limited due to a lack of field space.

On a regular basis, United Sports attracts participants and spectators from a 60-mile to 60-minute radius.  Centrally located, United Sports is convenient to people from nearby, neighboring states (Maryland, Delaware, New Jersey). A premier facility, United Sports has become the central hub for regional tournaments, team training, and excellent programming.

United Sports has programs for all ages (youth-adult) and all skill levels. We offer comprehensive Clinics, Summer & Winter Camps, Tournaments, Leagues and Instructional Academies.  Discover Chester County’s best kept secret!

About the Liberty North High School project by the Liberty tribune:

Setting the stage for true home athletic competitions and a host of other future uses, field turf for Liberty High School and Liberty North High School was purchased April 18 by a unanimous vote of the Liberty Public Schools Board of Education.

The Astroturf Game Day 3D3 52 playing surface with football and soccer boundary lines will be installed within the existing tracks at both high schools this summer, coming at a cost of $266,350 for Liberty High and $281,360 for Liberty North for the turf and ground work and $1,154,304 for total installation. The aforementioned costs will be covered by the district budget.

“As a stand-alone project, we believe that turf is the right move for the district,” LPS Chief Operations Officer Steve Anderson said. “After a broad and thoughtful discussion, it became clear that turf would address several program needs within the district. Not only will turf provide a stable, safe and reliable multi-use surface for athletics, it will also provide space for marching band, color guard, dance team, cheer, drum corps, physical education and more generally serve as an outdoor classroom space.”

The turf is expected to be ready for use by the start of the 2016-2017 school year.

Liberty High has already indicated it plans to play two football games on its home field this year, as it did during the 2015 season, with all remaining home Blue Jays and Eagles football games to be played at William Jewell College’s Greene Stadium.

With the turf on its way, plans are also being finalized for a private campaign to generate funds to develop activities complexes at both high schools around the new playing surfaces and to create permanent homes for the high school programs.

“We are also in the beginning stages of establishing a campaign committee that will be tasked with overseeing the fundraising effort to allow for full development of both complexes. Liberty High will require additional bleachers, concessions, restrooms and a scoreboard, while Liberty North will require these same improvements along with lights. All totaled, the project will cost between $4 (million) and $5 million. Conceptual plans are under development, and our hope is to more formally launch the campaign in the coming months,” said Anderson.

Repeated attempts to create a district stadium have been made in the past decade, but were ultimately unsuccessful, including a 2011 levy increase that would have funded a multi-purpose stadium and a 2013 campaign.

Anderson said the current initiative began last fall with the creation of an internal district committee to evaluate the possibility of purchasing and installing field turf. The committee worked with Hollis and Miller architect firm representatives and a sports field engineer from Olsson and Associates during the process.

The team reviewed a dozen turf options from five vendors. After narrowing down the options to Astroturf, the committee conducted site visits at Blue Springs High School, Kansas City Southeast High School and Excelsior Springs High School to see the turf in full scale. After visiting the schools, the committee chose to propose the Astroturf Game Day 3D3 52 playing surface to the Board of Education.

“We really appreciate the board taking that kind of action,” Liberty North High School Principal Marty Jacobs said. “The turf benefits our athletic program and performing arts program, as well as classroom work. It’s a wonderful thing that the board is able to provide the monetary resources for that.”

Anderson said the district will also be available for outside groups to use in the future.

About AstroTurf’s 3D3 Series Synthetic Turf:

The 3D Series is AstroTurf’s most popular product line.

The 3D Series adds a RootZone® to basic infilled turf systems. The RootZone, a texturized layer of fibers that draw down to encapsulate infill, results in minimal rubber splash, better shock absorbency, and less infill migration than basic systems. The RootZone improves safety, playability, and durability, making 3D systems the top choice for athletes and field owners alike. Importantly, independently funded research by Michigan State University has shown the RootZone to reduce torque transmitted to lower extremities.

Other System Highlights:

  • Manufactured with unmatched quality controls
  • 3D Decade systems available with ten year, non-prorated warranties
  • Multi-ply primary backing system for dimensional stability
  • Polyurethane secondary backing system featuring optional soy-based BioCel™ technology
  • Available with a range of infill options
