Sports Construction management, Inc. gave Appalachian State University’s Sywassink/Lloyd Family Stadium women’s softball field a much needed field renovation and repaired other issues that often kept the team from playing on the athletic field

Appalachian State University women’s softball team will be taking to their familiar softball field this season but it will have a whole new look after Sports Construction Management, Inc. (SCM) completed renovations on the field.

The softball field at Sywassink/Lloyd Family Stadium required a field renovation because of consistent drainage problems. Troy Heustess, Associate Athletics Director/ Facilities said the Boone, N.C. school enlisted SCM to rebuild the field in order to fix those issues. Those problems are gone now that Sports Construction Management, Inc. completed the renovation.

“Shortly after the new drainage system was complete and the sod was put down the mountains experienced near monsoon rains. As wet as it was we could have played on the field right after the rain quit. It was amazing. SCM did a great job and the field looks fantastic. This new softball field has exceeded our expectations,” Heustess said.

Sports Construction Management, Inc. totally rebuilt the team’s softball field and installed a new natural grass surface, drainage system and infield to eliminate the existing drainage issues with the field, according to Leroy Lawson, Executive VP/Director of Sales.

“It was a rewarding experience for us to have a part in improving the softball field for the University and the players and it was especially exciting to be able to have it completed within a tight time line,” said Lawson.

Head coach, Shae Wesley said, it was great working with SCM on the new softball field knowing they could trust the company to meet the team’s requirements for the field. Wesley said the school was more than satisfied with the results.

“Our new field is gorgeous and SCM was very enjoyable to work with. Their staff was very professional and efficient at renovating our existing field. In my opinion SCM set out not to just complete the job to specs, but went above and beyond to create a field and home our team could be proud of. SCM even took the time to explain the smaller options that may be worth considering. They were constantly asking for my staff’s input, which was huge for us” Wesley said.

Originally converted from baseball to softball in 2007, Sywassink/Lloyd Family Stadium is the on-campus home for ASU Mountaineer softball. The stadium is a gem for the Mountaineers seating 1,000 and featuring a natural-grass playing surface, state-of-the art press box and concessions.

BATTLE OF THE BRANDS CHARITY GOLF TOURNAMENT

North Myrtle Beach, SC, November 25, 2011 – The 1st Annual Sports Construction Management, Inc. Battle of the Brands Charity Golf Tournament was held on November 10, 2011 at the Fazio Golf Course, located in the Barefoot Resort in North Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. The money being raised is for the Blue Ridge Christian School, located in Sparta, NC.

Over 50 participants played under sunny skies to raise money for the new school, which opened in September 2011. Blue Ridge Christian School is a non-profit, private school for parents who choose to enroll their children in a small, faith-based school during their early years.

The tournament consisted of a Captain’s Choice format, with a 4 person team. Sunbelt Rentals won the overall tournament, with Fieldturf coming in with the overall low score for an artificial turf company and therefore winning the $0.50 per square foot turf installation for the first 70,000 square foot of a project (criteria set before tournament). All of this money (up to $35,000.00) will be donated to the Blue Ridge Christian School.

Sports Construction Management, Inc. would like to thank the many generous sponsors that stepped up for this event. Without their help, their inaugural tournament would not have been as successful.

As a licensed general contractor, Sports Construction Management, Inc. is a specialist in constructing and renovating athletic fields, including natural grass fields, conversions to synthetic turf, or complete construction and installation of new synthetic fields.
